SamenvattingThe Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004 damaged approximately 30,000 ha of rice paddies in the Aceh province of Indonesia and had drastic consequences for agricultural areas along the coast of Indonesia. The Aceh region was one of the most severe damaged agricultural areas. In this research, the effects of salinization on groundwater and soils, and the resulting consequences for the inhabitants of this area are investigated. By gathering secondary data, solutions to soil salinization and the following consequences are examined. Thereafter, several different governmental approaches are being described and the most fitting approach for this case study is selected.
